The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) has met with the Tanzania Police Force’s Traffic Division to coordinate joint work aimed at improving road safety, including proposals to connect their systems to support faster handling of road-traffic accident information and related insurance claims. The discussions focused on preparations for a workshop of regional and district traffic police commanders in Dodoma in the third week of February 2025, intended to set strategies to reduce road accidents and their impacts. The Traffic Division highlighted the need to strengthen insurance education for police commanders, particularly on verifying insurance cover through official systems. TIRA proposed integrating TIRA and police systems so accident information can be accessed immediately after an incident and read directly by insurers through TIRA’s system to speed up compensation to accident victims. The Dodoma workshop is expected to be attended by regional leaders, including Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rose Senyamule as guest of honour.
