The State Bank of Vietnam reported that its Governor, Nguyen Thi Hong, has been elected as a deputy to Vietnam’s 16th National Assembly, based on the National Election Council’s resolution on election results and the list of successful candidates. The National Assembly election resulted in 500 elected deputies from 863 candidates. The reported outcome indicates a shift in composition, with fewer deputies holding concurrent executive or judicial roles and a higher share of full-time deputies, with full-time deputies expected to account for 40% of the Assembly and all full-time nominees elected; women account for 30% of elected deputies. In addition to Governor Hong, four other banking-sector officials were reported elected, including the editor-in-chief of Banking Times, the chair of Agribank, the chair of Vietcombank, and an Agribank branch director. Following the publication of results, competent agencies are expected to complete the required procedures to confirm deputies’ status if no complaints or denunciations arise. The first sitting of the 16th National Assembly is planned for 6 April to finalise personnel and undertake legislative work.
