The State Bank of Vietnam highlighted the rollout of a cross-border QR payment service linking Vietnam and South Korea, implemented by Vietnam National Payment Corporation (NAPAS) with GLN International and settlement banks Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and Hana Bank. From 23 April 2026, South Korean visitors can use e-wallets and banking apps in GLN International’s network to scan VIETQRGlobal codes and pay at merchants in Vietnam. System connectivity and payment and settlement infrastructure integration have been completed and the service is now live. More than 115 million users in the GLN International network can pay at hundreds of thousands of acceptance points nationwide, with transactions processed in real time; settlement can be handled directly in South Korean won (KRW) via Hana Bank and BIDV’s settlement infrastructure. The update also links the initiative to the 2023 financial innovation memorandum of understanding between the State Bank of Vietnam and South Korea’s Financial Services Commission. The State Bank of Vietnam’s Payment Department urged NAPAS and relevant South Korean partners to complete the remaining “Vietnam outbound” connection so Vietnamese customers can make QR payments in South Korea, while NAPAS signalled plans to expand QR payment linkages with additional countries.
