The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) participated in the opening of the road-accident prevention and reduction command centre for the Songkran 2026 holiday period and highlighted insurance as part of the coordinated response to road-safety risks during the 10–16 April 2026 “seven dangerous days”. The OIC positioned microinsurance alongside compulsory and voluntary motor insurance as a practical, low-cost way to broaden protection for travellers and households. The OIC set out two microinsurance products for the Songkran period: an accident policy covering death, loss of limbs and permanent disability with maximum benefits of THB 100,000 plus medical expenses up to THB 5,000 for 30 days at a THB 10 premium, with an option to pay THB 20 for maximum cover of THB 250,000; and a 30-day home fire policy covering damage to housing and property from fire, lightning and explosion up to THB 30,000, with additional natural catastrophe and theft cover subject to policy terms, at a THB 10 premium. The policies can be purchased nationwide from insurers and intermediaries through 30 June 2026, and eligible individuals can also register via online and partner channels to receive the microinsurance entitlement for free, limited to one entitlement per national ID number.
