Greece's Ministry of National Economy and Finance published a Brussels agenda for Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis in his capacity as Eurogroup President, covering the Eurogroup meeting, ECOFIN and related appearances. The main policy items are the macroeconomic effects of the Middle East crisis, euro area banking system stability and resilience, further banking union work, and measures linked to the European Union's Savings and Investments Union strategy. At the Eurogroup, finance ministers from the 21 euro area countries are due to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East crisis and their effects on the European and global economy, with International Monetary Fund official Oya Celasun presenting the Fund's assessment. The agenda also includes discussion of banking system stability, deeper banking union and stronger financing for the European economy, with participation from European Banking Federation President Slawomir Krupa, alongside the regular half yearly updates from the Single Supervisory Mechanism and the Single Resolution Board. Ministers will also receive the FIVE Report on financing innovative businesses in Europe, presented by Christian Noyer and Jörg Kukies, with proposals to develop European capital markets and improve access to private capital for start-ups and growth companies. Greece will be represented by Deputy Minister Thanos Petralias. At the 5 May ECOFIN meeting, ministers are set to discuss a Council regulation on access by the European Public Prosecutor's Office and the European Anti-Fraud Office to European Union VAT information, as well as the package on market completion and supervision under the Savings and Investments Union strategy. Pierrakakis is also scheduled to appear before the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs to answer questions on euro area priorities and to take part in an IE Competitiveness Hub discussion on strengthening European economic competitiveness.
