CDP has appointed Beth Thoren as CEO of the CDP foundation, the new charitable arm that will be created as the organization separates into two entities later this year. The restructuring will leave CDP as the commercial business under Chief Executive Sherry Madera, while the nonprofit CDP foundation will operate as a separate organization under Thoren and a dedicated Board of Trustees. Once formed, the CDP foundation will use CDP data to support engagement with business, government and civil society, and will provide science-led principles and priorities to the commercial entity to inform the development of CDP’s question bank and disclosure methods. Thoren joins from Patagonia, where she was Environmental Action and Initiatives Director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and previously served as deputy chief executive at ClientEarth. Over the next six months, Thoren will work with the Board of Trustees, CDP’s leadership team and stakeholder groups to define the future role and strategy of the foundation. CDP said the separation into the commercial business and the CDP foundation is expected to be completed within that period.
