Cyprus’ Ministry of Finance announced that Finance Minister Makis Keravnos will travel to Brussels on 8 March 2026 to participate in the Eurogroup meeting on 9 March 2026 and chair the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) on 10 March 2026. The Eurogroup agenda includes an exchange of views on the latest euro area macroeconomic developments, consideration of Belgium’s 2026 draft budget with a statement to be adopted, discussion in an expanded format on the expected benefits of developing digital finance solutions in European financial markets, and an exchange on the economic impact of energy price fluctuations in light of geopolitical developments. The Eurogroup President, Kyriakos Pierakakis, will brief ministers on preparations for the Eurozone Summit scheduled for 20 March 2026. At ECOFIN, a working breakfast will cover current economic developments before a policy debate on a legislative package aimed at further developing EU financial infrastructures and capital market supervision; ministers will also discuss the economic and budgetary impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, are expected to endorse Estonia’s revised Recovery and Resilience Plan and Ireland’s medium-term fiscal and structural plan, and will exchange views on EU positions ahead of the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting and the International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings in April. On the morning of 9 March 2026, Keravnos will also chair the annual Macroeconomic Dialogue meeting with social partners, focusing on European economic developments and prospects and the opportunities and challenges from integrating artificial intelligence into the labour market.
