UK Parliament completed the House of Lords’ consideration of Commons amendments to the Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill, with peers agreeing to the Commons’ reasons and changes. The bill provides for preventing fraud against public authorities, reducing erroneous payments, and recovering public money paid out due to fraud or error. The Commons amendments addressed earlier Lords changes on Cabinet Office powers to initiate investigations, additional provisions for independent review, and reviews relating to eligibility verification measures. The bill had been scrutinised in the Lords between 30 April and 23 October 2025 before returning to the Commons as part of the “ping pong” process. Following agreement by both Houses on the final text, the update notes that the bill received Royal Assent on 2 December and is now law.
