The National Bank of Moldova hosted a delegation from Bucharest led by Romania’s Presidential Adviser for Defence and National Security, Cristian Diaconescu, and reaffirmed bilateral cooperation in the financial and banking domain, including Romania’s support for Moldova’s EU accession path. The talks were set in the context of the central bank’s work with European institutions to apply best practices and align regulation with European Union standards. The meeting reconfirmed collaboration to strengthen and improve the efficiency of the payments infrastructure, with an emphasis on ensuring interoperability between Moldova’s financial systems and European ones. It also reviewed progress under a cooperation protocol involving the National Bank of Moldova, Romania’s Financial Supervisory Authority, Moldova’s National Commission for Financial Markets, the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova and the Institute for Financial Studies Foundation, focused on joint educational programmes, promotion of university and postgraduate finance curricula, and research to support Moldova’s financial markets. Cooperation between the National Bank of Moldova and the National Bank of Romania was underscored, including two Twinning projects through which Romania supported the strengthening of banking supervision, corporate governance and risk management. The parties also explored opportunities for new technical assistance initiatives linked to European integration, including further development of financial infrastructure and support for macroeconomic stability and investor attractiveness.
