The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (Susep) took part in the Fundação Getulio Vargas FGVceisa seminar “Insurance and Climate Change”, where Superintendent Alessandro Octaviani linked the supervisor’s priorities to the rising frequency and severity of extreme events and highlighted the need for regulatory engagement on climate-related risks. Octaviani referenced the “Insurance and Ecological Transformation” Working Group, which was set up to provide inputs to align Susep’s efforts with the Federal Government’s Ecological Transformation Plan (PTE), and argued that the scale of the challenge requires making the agenda permanent within Susep and the National Council of Private Insurance (CNSP). He also pointed to Susep’s 2025 Regulatory Plan as treating the topic as a priority, including work on flood and inundation cover to map how it is currently offered in comprehensive home insurance and to study mechanisms to expand its market penetration in Brazil.
