The Central Bank of Russia published an update on a law adopted by the State Duma that will bar banks and microfinance organisations from charging any fees, penalties, or fines on the outstanding loans of deceased borrowers while heirs are completing the inheritance process. The prohibition applies from 1 September 2025 and will run for six months, unless a different inheritance succession period is set by law or a court ruling. It covers consumer loan and microloan agreements as well as mortgages of a deceased borrower.
