The Central Bank of Brazil has ordered the extrajudicial liquidation of Cooperativa de Crédito, Poupança e Serviços Financeiros (Creditag), citing a severe deterioration in the institution’s economic and financial condition. Creditag is described as a small, independent credit cooperative classified in prudential regulation segment S5 and, as of December 2025, held approximately 0.0000226% of the total assets of Brazil’s National Financial System. The measure was taken after the Central Bank identified serious impairment that also exposed unsecured creditors to abnormal risk. Under the law, the former administrators’ assets have been made unavailable. The Central Bank indicated it will continue to take measures within its legal remit to determine responsibilities; the findings may result in administrative sanctions and communications to other competent authorities, subject to applicable legal provisions.
