The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has launched the “Warm-hearted Restaurant with Insurance Coverage” project, introducing visible labels for restaurants and cafés that take out liability insurance as a way to promote insurance-led risk management and help consumers identify venues with third-party liability protection. Participating businesses receive one of two certification stickers. “Insured Restaurant and Café” applies to restaurants with public liability insurance covering third-party bodily injury or death, property damage, and legal defence costs, such as customer slip-and-fall incidents or damage to customer property. “Insured Restaurant and Café Plus+” applies where public liability insurance also covers losses arising from the sale or service of food and beverages, including food poisoning-related claims, such as severe illness requiring medical treatment. The initiative is being implemented with the insurance industry, including coordination through the Thai General Insurance Association and related intermediary associations and insurers, and is positioned to support access for food businesses across sizes and formats, from small restaurants and cafés to large and fine-dining venues.
