Mexico's Ministry of Finance and Public Credit announced that its Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) has concluded a technical specifications workshop to support the implementation of a diploma programme on preventing operations with resources of illicit origin for National Guard personnel. Delivered at National Guard facilities, the programme brought together specialist instructors from the UIF, the National Banking and Securities Commission, the National Intelligence Center’s CANDESTI committee and other technical units. Training covered the national and international anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing framework, proliferation financing risks, financial typologies, cryptoassets, obligations for “vulnerable activities”, and the role of financial intelligence in public security, alongside practical elements on legal requirements, analytical mechanisms, operational responsibilities and tools to identify, mitigate and report illicit finance risks. The release framed the initiative as supporting compliance with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations and reinforcing interagency coordination across intelligence, financial supervision and justice bodies, while reiterating the UIF’s intention to build a continuous training model.
