The Central Bank of Peru published trade figures showing that non-traditional exports, excluding commodities, rose 17% year on year in May, driven by a 21.5% increase in exported volumes led by the fisheries and agricultural sectors. Sales of non-traditional products increased to all of Peru’s main destination markets except Latin America, with agricultural goods the main contributor. Shipments to the United States were supported by higher exports of siderometalurgical products, specifically copper, while exports to Asia and China were marked by a record level of fisheries exports. Over January to May 2025, non-traditional exports totalled USD 8.698 billion, up 24% from the same period in 2024, reflecting a 24.7% increase in shipment volumes. In the 12 months to May, Peru recorded the region’s highest growth in non-traditional exports at 22.4%, compared with Colombia (9.2%), Chile (6.1%), Mexico (5.2%) and Brazil (4.5%); average annual growth over the past five years was 11.7%.
