The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs published an update on the Senate’s passage of the Foreign Investment Guardrails to Help Thwart (FIGHT) China Act, a bipartisan bill that would prohibit certain American investments in China and require notifications for others in specified technology areas. Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren described the measure as codifying a program to screen specific types of U.S. investments in China and other “countries of concern,” aimed at preventing U.S. capital from supporting advancements in sensitive fields including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and microelectronics. The bill was introduced by Senators John Cornyn and Catherine Cortez Masto alongside a bipartisan group that includes Committee Chairman Tim Scott. Warren indicated she will work with colleagues to advance a version of the legislation that can be signed into law.
