The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) met the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Thailand to set out a process for paying insurance compensation relating to Myanmar nationals who died when the Office of the Auditor General building collapsed following the 28 March 2025 earthquake. As part of the coordination, the OIC has provided the embassy with a list of deceased Myanmar nationals so it can verify identities and confirm the lawful heirs or other legally entitled beneficiaries who may receive compensation under the relevant insurance policies. The arrangement is intended to reduce problems in identifying eligible recipients and support accurate, prompt, and fair claims payments. After the embassy completes verification, the OIC will coordinate with the relevant insurance companies to pay compensation to confirmed beneficiaries as quickly as possible. The OIC said it will closely monitor progress and reiterated that protection of policyholders’ and claimants’ rights applies equally regardless of nationality.
