The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance, represented by superintendent Alessandro Octaviani, took part in a Chamber of Deputies public hearing on how the insurance sector is responding to the impacts of climate change, highlighting insurance’s role through both risk coverage and institutional investment. Octaviani argued that the scale of climate-related challenges requires coordinated public and private action and called for wider access to insurance and stronger product quality, pointing to agriculture as an example where only 7% of Brazil’s arable land is insured. He also referenced SUSEP’s working group on the catastrophe insurance ecosystem, noting that the authority has already engaged insurers and intends to expand discussions to include policyholders and public-sector representatives.
