Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Finance is continuing a state concessional lending program for homeowners in Bishkek and the Chuy Region to purchase and install modern, energy efficient heating systems. Eligible borrowers may receive up to KGS 1 million for terms of up to five years at an annual interest rate of 6% through ABank, Eldik Bank and Bakai Bank. The program forms part of the Improving Air Quality in the Kyrgyz Republic project and seeks to reduce harmful emissions from household coal burning and combat smog. The ministry is also holding information sessions in other districts to explain loan requirements and the costs and technical conditions associated with cleaner heating equipment, including heat pumps.
