The UK Parliament has taken the Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Bill through its third reading in the House of Lords, concluding the bill’s Lords stages with no amendments put forward ahead of the final review. The bill would make provision to prevent fraud against public authorities and erroneous payments, and to recover money paid out as a result of fraud or error. Third reading is intended for limited “tidying up” changes, and members used the stage to discuss the bill’s progress at the close of Lords scrutiny. The bill had previously undergone report stage debates on 15 and 21 October following committee stage consideration between 4 and 25 June. The bill has returned to the House of Commons for consideration of Lords amendments and is due to come back to the House of Lords for further consideration on 11 November.
