The Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) reported on its participation in the “Uruguay and the OECD” strategic dialogue on international integration and reforms, where BCU President Guillermo Tolosa said closer cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development could help advance needed reforms, including those related to the central bank’s own governance. He also linked OECD cooperation to strengthening financial education and expanding development and financing opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises. Tolosa made the remarks during a panel discussion with representatives from the OECD, government ministries, academia and industry. He framed engagement with international organisations as a way to exchange best practices and international experience that can help anticipate trends, improve public policy design and strengthen institutional credibility, citing financial education and SME access to finance as particularly relevant priorities for the BCU.
