The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) reported that it recorded 130 cases over the past year where work-related injuries or disabilities led to unplanned retirements, based on Work Fitness Assessment applications submitted by employers through the Ma’ashi platform. Employers filed 479 Work Fitness Assessment applications, supported by documents including certified medical reports and Emirates IDs. A medical committee reviews each case to determine whether an employee is unfit to work; where total disability is approved, the employee becomes entitled to a pension even if the minimum service period has not been completed, with the pension calculated on the basis of 15 years of service or the actual contribution period, whichever is greater. GPSSA urged employers to submit accurate information promptly and reminded insured individuals of their right to claim disability pensions when supported by the required documentation.
