The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published an alert drawing attention to press releases from five banks on scams reported to the HKMA, including fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens as well as phishing emails. The cases cited involve The Bank of East Asia, Limited, Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited, Chong Hing Bank Limited and OCBC Bank (Hong Kong) Limited (fraudulent website and internet banking login screen), and DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited (phishing emails). The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to banks’ websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or One-Time Password by phone, email or SMS. The HKMA advised anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions through or in response to the scams to contact the relevant bank using the details in the corresponding bank press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
