The Bank of Greece published provisional data showing Greece’s balance of travel services recorded a surplus of EUR 234.0 million in January 2026, up from EUR 90.8 million a year earlier. The improvement was driven by a 58.4% rise in travel receipts to EUR 473.3 million, alongside a 15.1% increase in travel payments to EUR 239.3 million. The increase in receipts reflected both higher inbound traveller flows (up 33.3% to 1,094.9 thousand) and higher average expenditure per trip (up 19.1%). Receipts from EU27 residents rose 55.6% to EUR 224.3 million, with euro area receipts up 46.1% to EUR 194.5 million and non-euro area EU27 receipts up 170.0% to EUR 29.7 million, while receipts from non-EU27 residents increased 61.8% to EUR 246.7 million; net travel receipts offset 8.3% of the goods deficit and contributed 71.3% of total net services receipts. The Bank of Greece indicated the next release covering February 2026 will be published on 21 April 2026.
