The European Parliament has outlined plenary business that includes a joint debate on three legislative files aimed at strengthening depositor protection and expanding the scope of banks covered by EU bank failure laws, with a provisional agreement already reached with member states. The package is framed as protecting taxpayers’ money by bringing more banks within the bank failure framework, harmonising depositor protection across the EU, and improving safeguards against losses for retail customers, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, and small public authorities. MEPs are scheduled to debate the files with Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque from around 18.30, ahead of planned adoption of the provisional agreement on 26 March.
