The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) reported that former financial adviser Marion Joan Pearson has appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on stealing charges relating to the alleged misappropriation of approximately AUD 4.1 million from 13 clients, following her extradition from New Zealand. The matter involves 136 counts of stealing allegedly committed between 6 January 2009 and 25 October 2013. The charges are being prosecuted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Cth) following an ASIC investigation and referral. ASIC noted that Ms Pearson unsuccessfully appealed her extradition for several years, with New Zealand’s Supreme Court dismissing her final appeal in May 2025; she was permanently banned by ASIC from providing financial services in November 2015, and an arrest warrant was issued in December 2018. Ms Pearson was remanded in custody until the next court date at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on 1 October 2025.
