The National Bank of Moldova held talks with the US Department of the Treasury’s Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia, William Beach, focusing on bilateral cooperation on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT), implementation of international sanctions, and measures to prevent illicit financing. The central bank briefed US officials on Moldova’s progress in strengthening its financial security framework, citing the Council of Europe’s MONEYVAL committee’s 2025 report and MONEYVAL’s decision that Moldova will no longer be subject to monitoring under the fifth evaluation round. The governor also indicated that European Union AML/CFT legislation is expected to be fully transposed into national law by the end of 2026. The meeting took place alongside the National Bank of Moldova delegation’s participation in the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C. on 13–18 April 2026.
