Switzerland's Federal Department of Finance announced that Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, State Secretary Daniela Stoffel and Swiss National Bank Governing Board Chairman Martin Schlegel will attend the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington from 15 to 17 October 2025, alongside the preceding G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting, with additional bilateral talks planned. Parmelin will lead the Swiss delegation in place of Federal President Karin Keller-Sutter due to a death in her close family, while Stoffel will represent the Federal President in meetings within the Federal Department of Finance’s remit. The meetings will focus on global economic, financial and development policy challenges, as well as the strategic orientation, governance and funding of the IMF and World Bank. Switzerland will advocate economic openness in multilateral bodies and emphasise sound public finances, price stability and a robust global monetary and financial system. It wants the IMF to focus on its core economic and financial mandate and support growth- and stability-oriented policies, including through efforts to build state capacities and institutions in emerging market and developing economies. Switzerland welcomed the World Bank’s efforts to create sustainable jobs by improving framework conditions, mobilising private capital and investing in infrastructure and digital technologies, and supported closer cooperation with other development actors as well as work on healthcare systems, vocational training and improved working conditions. At the G20 meeting, Switzerland will call for a level playing field, growth-friendly rules and legal certainty on international taxation, and back efforts to strengthen global financial stability.
