The Belgium Financial Services and Markets Authority reported on a keynote speech by its Chairman, Jean-Paul Servais, at an international Deutsche Bundesbank conference in Frankfurt, where he argued that many of the challenges facing capital markets are global and require internationally aligned solutions. Speaking in his capacity as chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions and of the OECD Corporate Governance Committee, Servais linked well-functioning markets to wider objectives such as the digital transformation of economies and endorsed efforts to deepen and strengthen capital markets. He highlighted potential benefits including better access, increased liquidity and more diversified investment opportunities, and stressed that a seamless framework aligned with global standards is needed to deliver these outcomes. The conference also featured remarks from European Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque and the President of Germany’s financial supervisor BaFin, Mark Branson, and drew an audience of over 100 participants.
