The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission published an account of a special lecture by its secretary-general on the importance of health insurance in an aging society and the future direction of related law. In that context, he described the regulator’s approach to supervising the insurance sector, with a focus on supporting the growth of health insurance while balancing policyholder protection, access to coverage through innovation and technology, and the long-term stability of the insurance system. The lecture highlighted the continued growth of health insurance in line with Thailand’s demographic shift and discussed health insurance product development, insurance law development, policyholder rights protection, and how coverage is assessed under health insurance policies. It also stressed that consumer protection should begin at the front end of supervision rather than only through complaint resolution after problems arise, with conduct of business oversight presented as a key tool for improving market standards and ensuring fair treatment of policyholders throughout the insurance product life cycle.
