The National Bank of Moldova reported that Governor Anca Dragu and Boris Kisselevsky, head of the European Central Bank’s Brussels representation, discussed cooperation on banking supervision and payment systems as Moldova prepares its financial sector for European Union integration. The talks examined the use of digital supervisory tools drawing on the ECB’s information technology experience, cooperation involving Moldova’s MIA instant payment system and opportunities for further integration with European payment systems. Banking supervision cooperation is conducted under a 2020 memorandum of understanding. The broader agenda covered central bank independence, macroeconomic and monetary policy developments, and alignment of national financial legislation with EU rules. Dragu cited Moldova’s integration into the Single Euro Payments Area, payment infrastructure modernization, digital financial services and stronger governance as elements of convergence with European standards. In a separate meeting, the delegation reviewed legislative alignment and financial stability reforms with Alexandra Jour-Schroeder, deputy director general at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union.
