The National Bank of Moldova announced that Governor Anca Dragu is holding meetings in Brussels with European Commission and European Central Bank officials on financial sector reforms and Moldova’s progress toward European integration. In initial talks with European Commission Deputy Director-General Alexandra Jour-Schroeder, Dragu reviewed the alignment of Moldovan legislation with EU rules, including measures on capital movements, payment systems, financial services and central bank independence. Payment data show that SEPA processed 1.1 million transfers in the first 11 months after Moldova’s operational connection, accounting for more than 80% of cross-border euro transactions by number. The National Bank’s MIA instant payment system has surpassed 1 million users and is now used by one in two people with a bank account. The central bank also sought continued technical dialogue with the European Commission to support effective implementation of EU-aligned legislation. Further meetings were scheduled with European Commissioner Maria Luís Albuquerque, European Commission Director-General Maarten Verwey and Boris Kisselevsky, head of the European Central Bank’s Brussels representation.
