The South African Reserve Bank has announced its inaugural Financial Stability Research Symposium, alongside a call for papers to support policy-relevant research and dialogue on financial stability and macroprudential policy in South Africa and the wider region. The 2025 theme is “Maintaining financial stability amid global volatility and uncertainty”, with a focus on strengthening domestic financial sector resilience. The Bank is inviting empirical and theoretical submissions, particularly on the impact of technology on bank customer behaviour, non-bank financial institutions and financial stability, financial system resilience to the external environment and capital flows, and financial policy development for climate risk. The in-person symposium will be held in Menlyn, Pretoria, and will combine academic presentations with policy discussions involving researchers, central bankers, regulators and other policymakers; return economy airfare and accommodation will be covered for speakers and panellists not based in Gauteng. Submissions close on 11 April 2025, with full papers preferred although detailed abstracts will also be considered, and successful authors will be notified by 25 April 2025. The symposium is scheduled for 24–25 June 2025.
