The Bank of Albania, in cooperation with the European Investment Bank (EIB), held a technical interinstitutional workshop to present and consult on the first draft of Albania’s Green Taxonomy, developed under the EIB’s technical assistance programme for greening financial systems. The taxonomy is intended to increase transparency in the financial market and guide capital towards activities that support sustainable development, with a stated long-term contribution to financial stability. The roundtable brought together public institutions, international organisations, the financial sector, the business community and environmental organisations. Discussions covered the taxonomy’s core concepts and technical screening criteria for classifying economic activities, as well as how these should be adapted to Albania’s context and aligned with European Union standards. Second Deputy Governor Natasha Ahmetaj framed the process as a consultation platform to collect technical feedback and improve the document’s practical applicability, and linked successful finalisation to Albania’s EU integration process. Once the consultation process is completed, the authorities aim to finalise the taxonomy and formalise interinstitutional cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding to support further implementation in Albania.
