The Central Bank of Costa Rica has started circulating a new 10 colones coin, replacing the size and key features of existing CRC 10 coins as part of the Bank’s new monetary series. Distribution will be gradual through institutions in the national financial system and aligned with the economy’s needs, with the new coin circulating alongside the previous CRC 10 coin. The coin is the lowest denomination and smallest diameter in the new series and is not part of the Bank’s collectors’ programme because it has a single reverse design. It is made of silvery stainless steel and measures 20 millimetres in diameter and 1.22 millimetres in thickness; the obverse shows the CRC 10 face value and the legends “Republic of Costa Rica” and “Central Bank of Costa Rica”, while the reverse features the National Coat of Arms and the year “2023”, reflecting the year the design was approved by the Central Bank’s Board of Directors. Tactile identifiers include a continuous reeded edge and a raised single-bar mark at the bottom of the obverse.
