The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) issued a board decision increasing the insured amount under the Government Insurance Fund for the Care of Egypt’s School Students to EGP 30,000 from EGP 20,000, alongside changes to benefits and the student contribution collected with school fees. The amendments are to be applied from the 2025–2026 school year and are described as the first application of Article 60 of the Unified Insurance Law. Under the decision, the fund will pay EGP 15,000 (up from EGP 10,000) for natural death or for accidents that do not meet the conditions for school-accident coverage, without restrictions on the place or time of death. Partial permanent disability resulting from an accident will be compensated as a percentage of the insured amount up to EGP 30,000, with the disability percentage determined by a designated medical body. Where a financial surplus is available, the fund may provide social and medical assistance including chronic disease treatment grants of up to EGP 2,500 up to three times during the study period, and support for surgical operations not covered or only partially covered by insurance up to the insured amount. The decision also introduces targeted support for students with disabilities, including a one-off EGP 1,750 treatment contribution and a one-off contribution of up to EGP 30,000 towards assistive devices not available through the health insurance system, while setting the contribution collected via school fees at EGP 10.60.
