Thailand's Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has joined Saraburi province, the Saraburi Sandbox initiative and insurance sector participants in activities to reduce PM2.5 pollution at its source through waste management and community forest fire prevention. The cooperation forms part of the OIC's 2026 air pollution risk awareness plan, extending its earlier seminar on insurance and PM2.5 into local action. It gives practical expression to the regulator's previously articulated emphasis on insurers helping prevent losses rather than only compensating for damage. In Saraburi, the OIC's provincial office and 24 local insurance sector organizations are promoting waste reduction, reuse and recycling to reduce waste disposal through burning. Participants are collecting data on the weight of waste avoided to evaluate results and calculate associated reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. Separately, the OIC and insurance sector are supporting the Forest Guardians project to strengthen fire prevention and response across 10 community forest networks. Support covers firebreak and emergency response training, surveillance cameras and firefighting equipment, alongside satellite and drone monitoring. The project also links community economic development with forest conservation, complementing Saraburi Sandbox's cooperation among government, industry and communities on environmental management.
Thailand's Office of Insurance Commission advances PM2.5 prevention through insurance sector waste reduction and community forest protection
Thailand's Office of Insurance Commission is working with Saraburi partners and the insurance sector to turn its PM2.5 risk awareness efforts into pollution prevention activities. These involve 24 local insurance sector organizations in measurable waste reduction and support for fire prevention and response across 10 community forest networks through the Forest Guardians project.
