The Department of Finance Canada reported that Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne concluded his participation in the G7 and G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meetings in Washington, D.C., held on the margins of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings. As part of Canada’s 2025 G7 presidency, Champagne and Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem co-chaired the G7 meeting, which focused on the global economic outlook amid changes in global trade policies and elevated uncertainty, as well as the situation in Ukraine. In the G20 session, discussions covered global macroeconomic risks and financial stability, issues related to the international financial architecture, and growth opportunities and challenges in Africa. Champagne also pointed to the upcoming G7 meeting in Banff, Alberta in May 2025, urging partners to work together to resolve trade differences and address shared challenges.
