The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan issued a clarification after media reports misinterpreted its website data on foreign companies that have ceased operations, particularly by attributing older cessations to recent years. The regulator said its published list specifies the year of cessation for each company and that the widely cited figure of 125 refers to the total number of foreign companies that have ceased operations since 1977. According to the SECP, 19 foreign companies ceased operations in Pakistan during 2022–2025, while 79 new foreign companies were registered over the same period. It also reported foreign investment in 82 local companies in the last month from multiple jurisdictions and said that, as of February 2026, 1,157 foreign companies remain registered with the SECP.
