Securities Commission Malaysia has launched the Young Regulators Development Programme (YRDP) in collaboration with the United Kingdom’s Durham University, establishing a two-week capacity-building course for early-career capital market regulators. The programme will be held annually from 2025 to 2027 in Kuala Lumpur and targets regulators with three to five years of experience from ASEAN and International Organization of Securities Commissions member authorities. The curriculum is split into core foundations in capital market development, regulation and supervision in week one, followed by advanced themes in week two covering digital assets, fintech, cybersecurity, sustainability and ESG, and Islamic finance; the course will be led by Dr Federico Lupo-Pasini with guest lecturers and industry practitioners. Durham University also highlighted an ASEAN Financial Regulators Scholarship to support ASEAN regulators pursuing its MSc in Law and Finance. The inaugural cohort is scheduled to commence in August, with Malaysia hosting the programme to support accessibility and participation across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and other jurisdictions.
