Argentina’s Ministry of Finance reported the signing of cooperation agreements with Japanese institutions during meetings in Tokyo involving Deputy Economy Minister José Luis Daza. The agreements renew a framework for financing cooperation, incorporating projects under Argentina’s Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), and establish bilateral cooperation on energy and mining investment. The renewed memorandum with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and the National Bank of Argentina covers cooperation in oil, gas, energy and mining, with financing for RIGI projects a central addition. It updates an arrangement established in 2018 and previously revised in 2023. The ministry and JBIC have signed, but full implementation remains subject to the National Bank of Argentina completing its internal procedures and signing. Two separate agreements with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry address energy security, the energy transition and investment in Argentina’s mining sector. Energy cooperation spans conventional fuels, hydrogen and ammonia, renewable energy and energy efficiency, supported by technical assistance, information exchange and investment promotion activities. The mining agreement focuses on identifying and expanding investment opportunities in critical mineral value chains, particularly lithium and copper.
