The Bank of Cape Verde (BCV) reported that Governor Óscar Santos and Board Member Tereza Henriques took part in the 2025 World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Washington, DC, held from 15 to 18 October 2025. Discussions focused on global economic policymaking, the world economic outlook, poverty eradication and economic development. The meetings brought together central bank and financial sector leaders, finance ministers, private-sector executives, civil society and academics. Cape Verde’s Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Olavo Correia, chaired the plenary session under the theme “Growth and Employment”, with governance, infrastructure investment, education and health, and the role of the private sector in job creation among the issues highlighted. Key topics included public debt, slowing trade, the energy transition and regulation of artificial intelligence, alongside calls to reform international financial institutions and restore confidence in the multilateral system. The BCV noted that the participation is expected to support reforms in fiscal governance, improved tax collection and greater transparency in debt management, particularly for vulnerable countries in sub-Saharan Africa, and to advance debate on a new architecture for sustainable and inclusive growth.
