The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) participated in COP 30 events in Belém on 14 and 15 November, contributing to discussions on expanding insurance protection, climate adaptation and the role of the insurance market in the ecological transition. SUSEP director Jessica Bastos represented the authority in a Ministry of Finance panel on the insurance protection gap and the consequences of the climate crisis, which discussed how intensifying extreme weather events are widening underinsurance and explored regulatory alternatives to foster more accessible, resilience-oriented solutions. She also joined a CNseg session on the role of insurance in climate and social resilience, focused on regulatory frameworks that support innovation, widen access to insurance and enable products aligned with current climate-related needs. Additional engagements included an opening session by the UN Environment Programme’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance, where new international frameworks and guides were presented to help insurers integrate climate, social and environmental risks, and a panel on transition plans to accelerate a just transition to a resilient net-zero economy.
