The Isle of Man Financial Services Authority has issued an updated public warning about a bogus entity claiming to represent Isle of Man-based FIM Capital Limited, using its powers under Section 30 of the Financial Services Act 2008. The notice cautions that people who interact with the impersonator may be exposed to fraud attempts or the harvesting of personal data for identity theft. The Authority reports that the bogus entity may use details of genuine FIM Capital staff members but directs recipients to hyperlinks that are not connected to the real firm, with recent approaches made via Telegram, which the genuine entity has confirmed it does not use. It also reiterates that the genuine FIM Capital Limited is licensed to carry out regulated activities in the Isle of Man and is not connected to the impersonator, and advises individuals who may have engaged with the fraudulent entity to take protective steps, including verifying contact through the firm’s legitimate website and considering reporting the matter to law enforcement and relevant cybercrime reporting channels.
