The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) has launched a new series of polymer banknotes across all denominations, officially unveiled in Suva by the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. The series introduces upgraded, state-of-the-art security features and new reverse-side designs while retaining the existing front designs and primary colours, completing the transition of all Fiji banknotes to polymer. The RBF said the redesign followed its periodic comprehensive review and that the process leading to the launch began in 2021. The 2025 series also marks the first time the RBF has used a new banknote supplier, Crane Currency. Reverse-side vignettes include the Vonu Dina (green turtle) on the FJD 5, children planting mangroves on the FJD 10, the RBF Building on the FJD 20, a Girmitiya lady with the vessel Leonidas on the FJD 50, and an i-Taukei man holding a bilo (bowl) of kava on the FJD 100; the Bank also plans to offset production-related carbon emissions through a local solar energy access project in Nakida village and to recycle polymer confetti from worn banknotes. The new banknotes will be issued into circulation from 02 January 2026. Current design banknotes will be gradually withdrawn over 2026 and demonetised on 31 December 2026.
