The Superintendency of Banks of Panama participated in the 40th Latin American Congress of Banking Security (CELAES 2025), held in Panama on 2 and 3 October, with discussions centred on cyber risk and the need to strengthen banking-sector protection standards. FELABAN secretary general Giorgio Trettenero Castro opened the event, warning that cybercriminals remain a constant threat in an increasingly interconnected digital world and that no bank is fully shielded from attacks. He highlighted cooperation among banks, supervisors and multilateral bodies as a key lever to raise protection standards and mitigate cyber risks. Experts also encouraged banks to continue investing in cybersecurity as an essential investment and to strengthen the “chain of trust” as a critical line of defence to support stability and confidence in the region’s financial system.
