Japan's Ministry of Finance published its international reserves and foreign currency liquidity data, showing reserve assets of USD 1,374,731 million at end-March 2026, down USD 35,968 million from end-February. The total comprised foreign currency reserves of USD 1,161,816 million, split between securities of USD 1,000,087 million and deposits of USD 161,729 million, alongside an International Monetary Fund reserve position of USD 11,137 million, Special Drawing Rights of USD 60,447 million, gold of USD 125,343 million (27.20 million fine troy ounces) and other reserve assets of USD 15,988 million. The template also reported other foreign currency assets of USD 34,247 million, including USD 33,960 million of loans to The Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and showed predetermined forward and futures positions of USD 20,000 million and net contingent foreign currency liabilities of USD 10,631 million, with most reserves reported in SDR-basket currencies (USD 1,354,907 million) and USD 19,824 million in non-SDR basket currencies.
