The Thailand Securities and Exchange Commission has asked the public prosecutor to file a Civil Court lawsuit against Miss Paranya Rudjanapronpajee over alleged manipulation of the share price or trading volume of Metro Systems Corporation Public Company Limited (MSC), seeking the maximum applicable civil sanctions after she declined to comply with sanctions imposed at the SEC level. The Civil Sanction Committee previously resolved to impose civil sanctions on two offenders for manipulating MSC shares, including total payments of THB 249,848,464 (civil penalties, compensation equal to benefits received or that should have been received, and reimbursement of SEC investigative costs), securities or derivatives trading suspensions of 11 or 14 months, and director or executive bans of 22 or 28 months. While one offender agreed to comply, Miss Paranya refused, prompting the SEC to request court-imposed civil sanctions requiring her to pay THB 332,307,757.52 plus interest, together with a suspension from trading securities and derivatives and a director or executive bar at the maximum statutory penalties. The SEC also referred the matter to the Anti-Money Laundering Office for action within its authority, citing the alleged unfair securities trading as a predicate offense under the Anti-Money Laundering Act B.E. 2542 (1999).
