In a speech launching Zambia’s 2025 Financial Literacy Week, the Bank of Zambia outlined a nationwide public awareness campaign running from 17 to 23 March 2025 across all 10 provinces, under the theme “Think before you follow, safeguard your money”. The Governor urged consumers to protect themselves against scams, fraud, pyramid schemes, cyber-attacks and data privacy risks by using only licensed financial service providers, safeguarding personal and account information, and reporting suspicious requests to relevant authorities. The address also highlighted ongoing financial education efforts targeting both students and adults, including incorporation of financial education into the national school curriculum in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. With the National Strategy on Financial Education II (2019–2024) concluded, the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, the Bank of Zambia and other regulators have begun a comprehensive review to inform development of phase III, and a multisectoral project team has been established to run the 2025 FinScope Survey, with topline findings expected by the end of 2025. The Governor reiterated the Bank’s earlier announcement of a new family of Zambian currency and said a nationwide sensitisation campaign is under way. The Minister of Finance and National Planning is expected to issue a statutory instrument setting out exchange arrangements, with the exchange from old to new currency scheduled to start on 31 March 2025.
