The National Bank of Georgia reported that Governor Natia Turnava participated in a World Bank-organised discussion among female central bank governors during the Spring Meetings in the United States, focused on expanding women entrepreneurs’ access to banking services and finance. The discussion, also attended by Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Finance Ekaterine Guntsadze, covered challenges and forward-looking plans, including the use of credit guarantee schemes, wider access to electronic payment instruments, and equity co-financing. Participants also reviewed the World Bank’s programme aimed at improving women entrepreneurs’ access to finance. Turnava highlighted domestic steps to support gender equality in financial sector governance, stating that the updated corporate governance code increased the number of gender quotas in the supervisory boards of commercial banks and microbanks.
